THE FIRST CARBON-NEUTRAL AUTO DEALERSHIP IN THE PUGET SOUND NOW OFFERS CUSTOMERS AN OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE THEIR HYBRID CARS CARBON-NEUTRAL “PLUS”

Rodland Toyota is working with the Seattle company NetGreen to launch the first program in the Puget Sound to offer customers the opportunity to make hybrid cars carbon-neutral “plus” .   NetGreen, the company that made Bumbershoot carbon-neutral, has also made the Rodland Toyota dealership the only carbon-neutral auto dealership in the Puget Sound through the sale of high-quality carbon offsets.  Carbon offsets offer the opportunity for businesses and individuals to “offset” greenhouse gas emissions which result from their car or their buildings. As auto customers become concerned about the greenhouse gas emissions of their vehicles, and look for an opportunity to make a difference, NetGreen carbon offsets make it easy for people and businesses to become carbon-neutral. Carbon offsets allow people to balance out the impact of their vehicle, by funding clean energy projects that reduce greenhouse gas.

Carbon-neutral is a new word in the Oxford dictionary. It indicates that people or businesses are offsetting their greenhouse gas emissions, bringing their impact on the planet to zero.  People can even making a positive impact by reducing more emissions than their lifestyle produces.  Rodland Toyota in Everett will now offer auto customers the opportunity to purchase carbon offsets to make their vehicles carbon-neutral “plus” based on average driving in the U.S.  From now until February 29, Prius customers will receive free carbon offsets with the sale of their vehicle to make their vehicle carbon-neutral “plus”. These carbon offsets fund wind energy and clean dairy methane projects, projects which follow rigorous standards and reduce greenhouse gas. Not limited to hybrid customers, any new or used car purchased through Rodland Toyota will have the option to purchase the appropriate level of carbon offsets to make the car they are purchasing carbon-neutral “plus”.

NetGreen carbon offsets follow international industry standards to ensure that $15 reduces a ton of greenhouse gas through wind energy and dairy farm methane programs.  Buzz Rodland, the owner of Rodland Toyota, asked NetGreen to evaluate the greenhouse gas emissions of his dealership from electricity and heating. Based on the evaluation, he purchased carbon offsets to reduce 219 tons of greenhouse gas. NetGreen certified his dealership as carbon-neutral. Now that his dealership was walking the talk, he is inviting his customers to make their vehicles carbon-neutral “plus”. He is inviting customers to purchase offsets for 110% of the average greenhouse gas emissions of the car for a year, doing more than their part, making them carbon-neutral “plus”. For as little as $5 per month, Prius or hybrid Camry customers can make their vehicles carbon-neutral “plus”. Hybrid Highlander customers can make their vehicle carbon-neutral for as little as $8.50 per month. Customers can also make their homes carbon-neutral for as little as $17 per month.  The money funds wind energy projects in small farms, replacing the use of coal for electricity.  The use of coal for electricity is the biggest source of greenhouse gas emissions in the country. Dairy farm methane projects turn methane from cow manure into clean electricity, and prevent methane from going into the air.  Methane is a greenhouse gas 72 times more potent than CO2.  Dairy farms are not required by law to handle the methane that results from their operations.  NetGreen evaluates these projects with rigorous international standards to ensure that the money provided by NetGreen customers reduce the greenhouse gas that NetGreen certifies.

NetGreen is the company that launched the Ballard “Get Carbon-Neutral campaign” with Sustainable Ballard, mentioned by Vice President and Nobel Prize Winner Al Gore in a speech in the Fall of 2006.   NetGreen considers that companies such as Rodland Toyota can make a difference on the planet through both being carbon-neutral and reaching out to customers that trust their business to become carbon-neutral as well.  NetGreen was founded by Mark McKinney, former CEO of Larry’s Market and Linda VerNooy, an individual with ten years of experience working with greenhouse gas emissions.
